Chai tea Salep!!

Who doesn't love starbucks?? Even if you don't like coffee there are plenty of alternatives like their mango smoothies or Tea, my personal favorite Chai tea Latte. A delicious cup of creamy tea with cinnamon flavor, what else?

I would love to be able to make this myself, but I think there is some kind of secret receipt that doesn't allow us to make it exactly like starbuck does. Offcorse the formula has to be kept secret, otherwise nobody would pay E 4,50 or 5 Lira ( lucky me) for a cup of tea.

Tea used to be one of the cheapest drinks, but thanks to starbucks it's an elite thing nowadays. It's almost fashionable walking around with a carton cup of starbucks tea.

Knowing myself, I won't stop looking for alternatives till I found the perfect one, maybe even better than starbucks chai tea'! So I was walking around Migros ( supermarket) looking for some tea, when I saw a rack of instant coffee powders and other stuff. One small package got my special attention because of the cinnamon and creamy cup of tea or coffee that was printed on. However I couldn't define if it was tea or coffee or milk, I had to guess. The name of the drink was Ekspres Salep. Great. Ekspres can be refered to as espresso. Or express , instant, quick. What Salep meant was even a greater mystery. So I ended up buying two packages.

When I got home I tried to read the turkish instructions that were hard to understand. B
ut than again, how hard could this be, it was not like cooking a duck! So I bolied some water, poored the content of the package into a cup and added the hot water. The result was a white cup of hot water. From the colour of the cup i could tell there was no trace of tea or coffee in this drink.
So, I guess I had to add this myself. And I did.

The result was a disgusting cup of instant milk powder tea with a expired cinnamon taste. My advice: don't try this at home!!

Thank you Starbucks, for being present on every corner of the street! I'm off for a well deserved cup of Chai Tea Latte Grande!

MNG!

Maybe I haven't mentioned before that I'm a huge fashion addict. I need to shop every week, and can't live without having new weekly clothes with price tags haging in my closet.During my last 6 months in Paris I have been shopping every weekend together with my bff Maikel. No money was saved, every dime spend on shoes, dresses and baggs.
Le Marais was a Favorite because of it's unique vintage stores and wonderfull (gay) bars.

Last week I was walking around my new neighboorhood, Kadikoy, which is located on the Asian side of Istanbul. Didn't thought there were lots of seductions that would make me do the same stupid thing as in Paris, as most of the stores around are supermarkets, grocery stores or little bakery shops.

I saw lots of cute little turkish shops while I was walking my way to a street that got bigger and bigger. After a few minutes I saw bigger clothing stores and Turkish chain stores. No seduction for me as I'm not very found of Turkish brands. But all of a suden I stood eye in eye with an enormous MANGO store. ENORMOUS!! I couldn't believe my eyes.

I have always loved Spanish clothing brands. Pedro Garcia, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Custo Barcelona and many others. Unfortunatly those brands are not always accessible for me because of the prices and sizes ( I'm not a regular size 6,more a 16!).Thank god there are lots of alternatives to the high end fashion brands, like Zara and MANGO.

Yes MANGO, it felt like finding a starbucks on the southpole.
After entering the store I found out they had an outlet on the second and third floor, can you believe it? 70% off regular Turkish prices. Like heaven.

Found 3 pairs of beautifull shoes, all limited editions, one by Murad Zuhair!
I won't tell you how much I paid, but it was all 85% off spanish price!! MI GUSTA!!

They also had lots of dresses, bags, chemises and other stuff. It's definitely worth a visit, BUT you have to be patient, as most of the time there's a big queue at the cashdesk!!

Introduction Turks fruit

Hi everybody!

I'm Barbara 23 years from Amsterdam, and I'll be blogging about my Istanbul experience as well as about fashion and other interesting stuff. Offcorse it will also help me improve my English and let you guys a sneak into my life ( not that interesting at the moment!).

The name of my blog; Turks fruit means Turkish delight in Dutch. It was also the name of the most popular Dutch movie ever, directed in the 70ties by Paul Verhoeven after the Novel by Jan Wolkers. 3,500,000 people saw the film, corresponding to about 27% of the Dutch population at that time!!

The story is about a Dutch sculptor that who has a stormy and erotic romance with a beautiful young girl. The movie is told in flashback from the perspective of the head caracter.
I won't go too much in detail as you just have to see it for yourself.

So if your in the mood to see a Dutch old fashioned soft porn movie with a storyline I would definitely recommend Turks fruit!!
